George Rodgers has been in practice in Austin since 1989. He was one of the founding members of Austin Heart and The Heart Hospital of Austin. He served as Austin Heart’s president from 1999-2005 and was the medical director of The Heart Hospital of Austin in 2004.
Although Dr. Rodgers began his career as an interventionalist (a ballooning and stenting cardiologist) he later developed a true passion for prevention. In 1999 he introduced the Heart Saver CT (the CAT scan of the heart) to evaluate patients for the earliest evidence of coronary artery disease. In 2005, Dr. Rodgers left Austin Heart to join Biophysical Corporation as its President and Chief Medical Officer. This new biotech firm offers great promise for discovering biomarkers that detect diseases long before symptoms are present and help to better define risks for heart disease and diabetes. During his tenure he interacted with numerous prevention and wellness clinics both nationally and internationally and gained a much better appreciation for the wellness approach – the impact of lifestyle and nutrition on cardiovascular health. Dr. Rodgers continues to serve as Biophysical’s Chief Medical Officer.
Dr. Rodgers has been very involved in the cardiology profession. In 2003 he was elected by his peers to serve as the governor of Texas for the American College of Cardiology. In 2007 he was named the chairman of the Board of Governors for the American College of Cardiology. Dr. Rodgers continues to serve on the Board of Trustees of the American College of Cardiology. In 2006 and 2007 Dr. Rodgers was recognized by Texas Monthly as a “Super Doc”.
Dr. Rodgers shares the vision of the Heart Clinic of Austin in putting prevention first and is pleased to return to full-time practice with Dr. Jeffrey Michel.
His motto:
“I always treat my patients the way I’d like my own family members to be treated. I approach each patient with compassion and respect. My goal is to help each of my patients achieve their optimal cardiovascular health. “
